First, consider your budget and whether or not you have the finances and credit to support building a new home.
Next you need to get with a builder or architect and decide on a style, how many rooms, floor plan, and location for your new home. Before going any further you should get your ideas down on paper. Square footage also plays a part in the cost of construction. You’ll also need to find a lot. There are often lots already for sale in an establish development. Ask the home builder you are working with if they have any or know of any available lots. You can also look in classified ads or work with a real estate agent to see what is available.
Once you’ve designed your plan, it’s time to get financed. There are two types of financing you’ll need. The first being a home construction mortgage that is utilized to pay the builder in stages as the construction proceeds forward. The second is a residential mortgage. This will pay off the construction loan after your home is built.
Next on the home building steps list is the building process. After digging and pouring the foundation, framing the home and putting on the roof, the plumbing and electrical is installed. A licensed plumber and electrician will need to do this.
Now that your home building steps are complete and the house is finished, it is time to do a final walk through. You will everything including making sure all of the appliances work properly, the air conditioner and heater work, none of the walls are cracked, none of the pipes leak and inspect the attic. You should also check outside for damage. Check the gutters, driveway and sidewalk for damage.
